Important Announcements

Class 1-201

Mrs. Marsala

Welcome to First Grade!

Arrival/Dismissal: Please make sure your child arrives on time for school. It sets the stage for the entire day. Breakfast is served promptly. Additionally, please be on time to pick up your child. If you are running late, your child will be brought inside and will need to be signed out. If your child is being picked up by someone else, please send in a note, regardless of whether they are on the blue card. You can also text us using REMIND.

Absences: Please bring in a note if your child is absent. Kindly remember that your child should be fever free and cleared by a doctor, if necessary, in order to return back to school after an illness.

Homework: It is an important extension of the school day and allows you to see what we have worked on that day in class. Homework assignments will be typed and sent home weekly. A designated RAH (Reading at home) notebook is where phonics/ reading h.w. will be done. A blue homework folder was sent home that should come back and forth to school daily with their RAH notebook. Please don’t let papers accumulate!

Birthdays: This is a time for us to celebrate with your child as a class we continue with our daily routine. Treats are no longer allowed but goody bags may be sent home. We try to make your child feel as special as possible on their special day! ☺

Breakfast/Lunch: Breakfast and lunch are free for all students and served daily. Lunch bags must be labeled. Please send in a light afternoon snack. We ask that you please send in a closed top reusable water bottle (thermos, contigo, camelback) rather than a plastic bottle so we can reduce spills and focus on recycling. We promote a healthy lifestyle so healthy snacks and lunches are preferred. Please let us know ASAP of any allergies your child may have!

Bathroom: We have a bathroom inside of our classroom. Children may use it at any time. Please send your children in clothes that they can take on and off themselves to make this a simple process for them.

Specials: Each day your child will be attending a special with another teacher. On gym days, sneakers and clothes they can easily move around in are required. A schedule of our specials will be announced within the coming weeks.

Classroom Management: Children are encouraged and taught to use their best manners not only in the classroom, but throughout the school. The Leader in Me program has been adopted by our school. Children are encouraged to foster these 7 habits of being a leader in all that they do. Being proactive, Begin with the end in mind, Put first things first, Think win-win, Seek first to understand then to be understood, Synergize, Sharpen the saw. You will be learning more about these habits throughout the school year, and we hope that you encourage them at home with your child. Individually, the children will accumulate tally marks at their desks. When they reach 10 tallies, they get to choose a prize from the prize box!

Supply list: The supplies that we asked you to purchase are essential for your child in the classroom. Please send in promptly!

Communication: The connection between school and home should be a smooth one for your child and it is OUR job to make sure it is. You have received an invitation to join DOJO Please sign up for this as it is a way, we can text each other pertaining to your child’s behavior, reminders, and/or last minute information that comes up. We will be using Google classroom periodically. This information will be sent home in the coming weeks. There are (2) parent/teacher conferences per year. They will both be virtual. However, we communicate throughout the whole year for both constructive and positive purposes. My email is [email protected]. Please note that dismissal time is not the time to engage in a personal conversation regarding your child. The children’s safety is our priority and it important that our focus remains on the children at all times. We appreciate your understanding on this manner.

I’m looking forward to working with your First grader and YOU this year! I am excited to get to know your child and watch them grow. I love being a  teacher and I  hope I can foster a love for learning for your child!

Respectfully yours,

Mrs. Marsala
